Meet our Kitchen Manager- Sarah.

Have you spotted a little blonde lady in and out of the kitchen? That’s Sarah- our kitchen manager.

JT was looking for someone with the training and love for food that would help keep his recipes consistent and our quality Five Star (!) We found that in Sarah.

Sarah grew up in Milwaukie, Oregon and spent her childhood helping at a restaurant run by her Grandpa called “The Bomber”. He actually flew the B17 Bomber plane that is on the property and since Sarah was born on the property she’s called a “bomber baby”! As a child she helped in the kitchen- making grilled cheese sandwiches, slicing her first onion and eating as much ice cream as she wanted. This was a natural place for her love of food to begin.

From 2006-2007 she attended Le Cordon Bleu in Portland, Oregon. She now lives in Utah with her husband and their new black lab puppy- Diesel.

All these things make Sarah a great fit for the Five Star kitchen where food and family always come first. We’re also thrilled that she brought along her handmade apple pies- which are really delicious.

We asked Sarah a few questions about working at Five Star and here’s what she had to say…

What was your first impression of the restaurant? Small, odd location but cute with friendly service and great food.

Your favorite thing about your job? The customers.

Your favorite smell in the kitchen? The freshly pulled pork and the brisket. Yum!

(That’s one of our small side bowls filled with candy, and the candy scattered on the shirt.)

The closest answer wins and the winner gets their choice of a Five Star BBQ Baseball Cap or Shirt.

This means the winner also gets a lifetime of free drinks for wearing the hat or shirt into the restaurant! Plus, you get to look as cool as we do when we wear our Five Star logos at work. We’ll even throw on a squirt of BBQ sauce for authenticity (if you like that sort of thing! ha ha.)

The winner will be chosen on Monday, February 13th. Have fun guessing!

Five Star Proudly Serves CERTIFIED ANGUS BEEF!

CAB_LOGO_gs copy

We get lots of questions about what makes our brisket so tender and delicious.

Here’s our best answer.

A lot of credit goes to JT’s rub and his magic BBQ touch. We couldn’t do it without our workhorse Southern Pride Smoker, filled with apple wood for flavorful smoke and carefully tended by our awesome kitchen staff.

It all begins with the CERTIFIED ANGUS BEEF Choice Cut Briskets that we serve.

What does CERTIFIED ANGUS BEEF mean?

Certified Angus Beef ® brand Natural is the finest natural beef available.

Angus cattle are carefully selected from reputable ranches and family farms in America’s heartland. These producers are dedicated to bringing the very best, natural beef to your family’s table. These ranchers commit to a never, ever policy, raising cattle without antibiotics or added hormones. And cattle are fed a strictly vegetarian diet.

Not only does Certified Angus Beef ® brand Natural meet the brand's standards for all-natural beef, it also meets the brand’s marbling standards and 10 specifications for flavor and quality. These standards – paired with a never, ever commitment – ensure consumers always enjoy premium beef with the wholesome goodness of the brand’s Natural products.

From the farm to the grocery aisle, Certified Angus Beef ® brand Natural achieves the highest quality standards, ensuring every bite is abundantly flavorful, incredibly juicy and naturally tender.

As a nonprofit organization, our company’s mission is simple:
Provide superior beef quality through our network of world-class farmers and ranchers.
We’re the first Angus brand and the only brand owned by the American Angus Association ® – the organization representing nearly 30,000 of America’s Angus ranchers and their families.

High Five- “It’s been too long.”

70167730_OTRsrbc2_c

Yesterday we had a guy come in for his first meal. He ordered a brisket plate and sat down with his friends to eat.

About 20 minutes later he came back up to the counter and ordered a brisket sandwich.

“Will this fill you up, do you think?”

He said- “Oh, I’m already full, but it’s been so long since I had BBQ this good I just need some more!”
