High Five- quite a compliment for the brisket!

It’s always entertaining to observe men in line watching Mike or Josh cut the brisket fresh for their meal. We have actually seen them drool!

Last week, a lunch customer brought his friend in for the first time. They were watching Mike make their brisket sandwiches and the man said…

“Ohhhhhh- that’s sexy!”

Everyone laughed and then he asked…

“Could you cut it a little slower?”

Throwdown Challenger #4- Drew Manning of Fit2fat2fit.

 

Last Saturday we had an interesting challenger come in for the throwdown. Drew Manning is a personal trainer who is spending 5 months gaining weight on purpose. You can read about his journey AND his experience with the challenge HERE.

Drew’s family and friends showed up in force to watch him take on the challenge.

2 1/2 pounds of delicious brisket all ready to go!

And…. begin!

He has gained 55 pounds in 13 weeks (hope we got that right!) and the brisket is likely to add a few more pounds to that number!

It cracked us up when we cleared his table after the challenge and saw these bottles sitting there.

Drew did an amazing job at the challenge. He is our current record holder having consumed 3 lbs of Brisket, all of his sides and both pieces of bread!

Lucy: So it's as awesome as 5 rock stars? Is that why they call it that?
Mom: I think you're right.
Lucy: Then they should call it Five Hundred Million Star BBQ!

High Five- Overheard.

This High Five was overheard in the restaurant on Monday. One of our regulars brought a friend in for lunch and was running him through the menu. He said “The only mistake you can make here is not coming here!”

Throwdown Challengers- 7/15/11 and 8/01/11

The Five Star Five Pound Show Me What You Got Throwdown challenge was issued and so far three brave men have taken their best shot!

On 8/01/11 Ryan Kerr and Jason Warren came in together and faced down 10 pounds (!) of meat, 4 sides and 4 pieces of garlic bread.

All right, guys! Get ready to dig in…

Still going strong at about 20 minutes… our favorite quote at this point was “mind over meat”-but eating 5 pounds of meat along with sides is no easy task and in the end the guys had to admit defeat.

The other Throwdown challenge happened on 7/15/11 when Alex Walton came in all the way from Clearfield to make the first ever attempt!

Alex put in an incredible effort but at just under three minutes to go he had to admit he wasn’t going to make it.

He did, however, eat FOUR WHOLE POUNDS during the challenge making him our current record holder!

We can’t help wondering--- who might have the mettle to take the record away from him?
