Five Star Caters Annual BYU Baseball Golf Tournament

web 1

Last Saturday we had the great pleasure of catering an event for BYU Baseball- The annual Golf Tournament. What a great day it was. The venue is classy and gorgeous.

If you know JT, you know that he loves BYU and Baseball, so this was an exciting day for him. There were so many alumni that he was excited to feed.

Our Review in The Herald!

If you enjoy smoked meats then you'll probably want to give Five Star BBQ Company an extra star after eating there. If you don't like smoked meats then a) what is wrong with you, and b) they do have excellent sides such as macaroni and cheese, Mama's Herbed Mashed Tatoes, smoked beans and even salad, if that's really what you want.

Of course, if that is what you want, then what are you doing having dinner at a place called Five Star BBQ Company in the first place? You're looking for Five Star Salad Brigade, friend, or possibly Five Star Food for Wimps, or maybe even Five Star Why Not Have Some Tea and a Cracker with Tiny Little Slices of Cucumber and Cheese.

I digress. The guy who dished up for us said that Five Star has been open since October -- almost a year now -- and I weep to think of how much tender, savory brisket or mouth-watering pulled pork was consumed there before I even knew that such a place was open for business.

The Five Star premises are inside what sort of looks like a rambling old ranch house on Geneva Road in Orem. It's got a homey character, and the dining area inside follows the floorplan through a series of rooms, nooks and alcoves. Everything is clean and well-lit, and the service when we ate there on a Saturday night was prompt and friendly.

You order at the counter, pay at the register and take your plates to the table of your choosing. Each table has a couple of the basic house sauces, and you can pick up different varieties at the register. There's a rack of paper towels at every table, and you'll find that that's more or less essential.

We tried the large sampler, which includes all four of Five Star's signature meats, and found that it provided more than enough dinner for two. The brisket and pulled pork, which you can have as a sandwich or eat straight, were our favorites, but we also enjoyed the chicken and ribs (which necessitated the use of many paper towels), and everything tasted even better with a drizzle of one of the signature sauces.

The Alabama sauce, Sweet Chili sauce and Mustard sauce are all worth a try, and the basic house BBQ sauce is excellent as well.

We didn't have room for all of the sides -- so many sides ... not to mention that you get your choice of cornbread (yum) or garlic toast with most orders -- but the ones that we tried were all satisfactory, and the herbed mashed potatoes are almost as good as the brisket and pork. I also recommend the Brunswick Stew, and there's an excellent pumpkin cake if you aren't full up to your eyebrows by the time that dinner is done.

If you like meat, then chances are good that you will, in fact, be full up to your eyebrows. If you don't like meat -- well, we covered that already.

High Five- the highest compliment we could get!

5708252_ZNVXNC2h_c

Last weekend we catered a large corporate event… when we asked them how they chose us, here’s what they said.

“We bought BBQ from every place we could find in the valley and then set up a blind taste test for our employees to decide which food they liked the best. Your BBQ was by far the most popular- and so we chose you to cater our event.”

What a thrill it was to hear that. We’d like to thank you for your business and also for the giant compliment! You’re just one of the reasons that making delicious BBQ is what we love to do.
